Sophia McNab

Sophia McNab is an artist and printmaker living in London. In 2018 she quit her job to go to art school, graduating three years later with a MA in Fine Art from City & Guilds of London Art School. Sophia's work explores memory, touch and time, and our relationship to landscape. 

She draws on a collection of family photographs and postcards, as well as natural materials gathered in coastal landscapes. Her work frequently returns to the memory of one beach and its precious sands and shoreline, but she prefers to leave the details unknown to the viewer.

Her printmaking process captures the tender gesture of stroking a treasured photograph, or of brushing dust off a surface. Openings in the ink operate as glimpses into a personal history. These are intimate works that invite closer inspection but ultimately conceal more than is revealed.
